What is Electric field strength?

At the reflecting interface, the electric field amplitude reaches its maximum at the critical angle and zero at grazing incidence. Theoretical formulas for the electric field amplitudes at the surface, which rely on both polarization and angle of incidence, are provided in this study.

It helps us to quantify the reflectivity losses brought on by the interaction of these standing waves with absorbing species close to the surface, either in the rarer or denser medium, using straightforward formulas and without the need for computers.

They also help us understand physically what happens when the reflection is thwarted and how the absorption process operates at the reflecting interface. This is beneficial for fiber optics and the study of internal reflection optical spectroscopy.
